Remedy a Gummy Smile With Veneers
Short teeth produce a gummy smile where too much gum tissue shows. If you’re hiding your gummy smile, it’s time you seek a better solution. Dental veneers can transform your smile into one you are proud to show off.

No one has the perfect smile. In fact, practically everyone can find something they don’t like about their teeth. Short teeth or too much gum tissue can produce a gummy smile. Approximately 10% of the United States population has this issue, so you’re not alone. However, this issue doesn’t need more company — it needs a solution.

Sabrina E. Mickel DDS, Inc. in Beachwood, Ohio, offers patients in their area with a gummy smile a fast and beautiful solution for a gummy smile: veneers. If you’re tired of hiding your smile, veneers allow you to reintroduce yourself.

What are dental veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that combine art and science to transform your smile. The thin shells fit snugly over the front of your natural teeth. Porcelain closely replicates tooth enamel, so it’s the absolute best material to maximize comfort and protection.

Dental veneers are a great solution when you have:

  • Worn teeth
  • Heavily stained or discolored teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Short teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Uneven or crooked teeth

How do dental veneers work?

Dr. Sabrina Mickel and her team remove a thin layer of tooth enamel and take impressions of your teeth to create your custom veneers. These impressions allow the dental lab to fabricate intricately tailored shells for each tooth for maximum comfort, color shading, and a precise fit.

When your veneers are ready, you return to our dental clinic for their installation. Each veneer is perfectly positioned and bonded to your teeth with a strong adhesive. We use a UV light to activate the adhesive.

This dental appointment typically lasts between one and two hours, depending on how many teeth are covered with veneers. The cemented veneer reinforces and strengthens the tooth, reducing the chance of further damage while giving you a charming smile.

Can dental veneers hide a gummy smile?

Veneers are a popular solution for gummy smiles. Dr. Mickel may remove a small portion of gum tissue before attaching your veneers, but the porcelain does not irritate your gums.

The veneers make your teeth appear longer, exposing less gum tissue. They pose no problems in appearance or function. And, you care for your veneers like your natural teeth. Just regular brushing, flossing, and bi-annual dental visits.
